Justin Englund, Janae Wade and Nyerere Partee Jr. captured the top spots at the Cedar Heights Middle School Spelling Bee on Saturday.
The competition was open to fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students.
Englund, a fifth-grader at Meridian Elementary, took first place, followed by Partee Jr., a sixth-grader at Cedar Valley Elementary, and Wade, a sixth-grader at Cedar River Middle School (Tahoma).
The three students completed four rounds before the top two were selected. The top two participants went five rounds before a winner was declared.
The winner received a Kindle Fire and advances to the regional bee in Seattle.
