Maurice Clemmons, the man suspected in the shooting deaths of four Lakewood Police officers, is believed to have been shot and killed at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, by a Seattle Police officer making a routine stop on a stolen-vehicle report.
The man whom police shot matches the description of Clemmons, who has been the subject of a major manhunt in the Puget Sound area. The manhunt had followed the shooting deaths of the four Lakewood officers early Sunday morning as they sat in a Parkland coffeeshop.
One of them, Gregory Richards, had previously worked as a Kent Police officer, before joining the Lakewood force.
According to news reports, the shooting took place in South Seattle, on the 4400 block of South Kenyon Street. It was reportedly the result of a confrontation between Clemmons and a patrol officer from the South Precinct. Clemmons, armed with a handgun reportedly taken Sunday from one of the four deceased Lakewood officers, refused the officer’s commands to stop. He also reportedly reached into his waist area as the officer drew his own gun.
In addition, police also booked four people Tuesday morning on suspicion of providing assistance to Clemmons.
