Life is returning back to normal Monday on Kent’s East Hill after the suspected bomb on a Metro Transit bus turned out to be a training device.
“It was a training device that was accidentally left on board the bus after a training exercise that KCSO (the King County Sheriff’s Office) held last week,” said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman DB Gates in an email.
Roads and businesses were shut down on Monday morning near 104th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 240th Street after a 911 call about a possible explosive device in a backpack on a bus. The bus was parked northbound on 104th Avenue Southeast near the Taco Bell.
A Sheriff’s Office bomb squad investigated the device and determined it had been left on the bus from a large training exercise to handle potential bomb threats and explosions that included Metro buses.
The Sheriff’s Office used its Twitter account to release the following message:
“Apologies to the drivers and businesses in Kent East Hill impacted by this morning’s suspicious bag incident. Our training aid was at fault.”
