T-Birds, Saskatoon swap defensemen

The Seattle Thunderbirds acquired defenseman Turner Ottenbreit from the Saskatoon Blades for defenseman Adam Henry, general manager Russ Farwell announced Monday.

The Seattle Thunderbirds acquired defenseman Turner Ottenbreit from the Saskatoon Blades for defenseman Adam Henry, general manager Russ Farwell announced Monday.

“Due to the limit on 20-year-old players we wanted to move ahead and get settled on our team as soon as possible,” Farwell said. “This provides a good opportunity for Adam to move to another team and brings us the depth we needed on defense in return. We wish Adam the best-of-luck and thank him for his contribution to our team last year.”

Ottenbreit, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound defenseman who is 17 years old, has played in two games this season with the Blades and one goal. Last year he played in 10 games with the Blades and had no points and two penalty minutes.

Henry, a 20-year-old, has played in three games with the T-Birds this season and has one assist. Last season Henry had seven goals and 31 assists for 38 points in 64 games with the T-Birds. Henry was originally acquired from the Lethbridge Hurricanes for defenseman Griffin Foulk on Oct. 9, 2013.

In 176 games over five seasons in the WHL with the T-Birds and Lethbridge Hurricanes Henry has 16 goals and 60 assists for 76 points with 131 penalty minutes.

The T-Birds travel to Portland to play the Winterhawks at 7 p.m. Friday at the Moda Center. They take on the Kelowna Rockets at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the ShoWare Center.

Single game tickets are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
