The Seattle Thunderbirds has acquired goalie Taz Burman from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for forward Lane Pederson and a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2017 Bantam Draft, general manager Russ Farwell announced Wednesday.
“This was a difficult trade to make because we really believe Lane will move on to become a top player in the WHL,” Farwell said. “But we needed to improve our goaltending to match the potential of our team for next season. Burman will bring us quality goaltending and compete to be our starter and to get that quality we had to give up a good player. We wish Lane all the best in Red Deer and in the Memorial Cup next season.”
Burman had a 9-5-1-1 record in 21 games in his second season in the WHL last year. He had a .890 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average. In 38 career games with the Rebels over two seasons, Burman has a 11-11-1-1 record with a .888 save percentage and a 3.36 goals against average.
Pederson appeared in 63 games last season with the T-Birds and had eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. Pederson took part in the Anaheim Ducks Development Camp during the first week of July.
The T-Birds open the regular season in Vancouver against the Giants at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25. The T-Birds’ home opener is Saturday, Oct. 3, against the Prince George Cougars. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at the ShoWare Center.
