Daniel Elementary School hosts Diversity Appreciation Night on Thursday, Sept. 27, featuring “Telling Our Stories Art, Social Justice and Superheroes.”
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s multipurpose room, 11310 SE 248th St., Kent,
Vishvajit Singh, aka Sikh Captain America, will host a talk for students, parents and staff to highlight the power of stories.
“Our commitments to equity and student-centered practices are embedded in everything we do from our interactions with our community to instruction,” said Principal Patty Drobny. “I am as excited for this event. Our students need to see heroes and role models that look like them and that look like their classmates. On this night, they will have that chance.”
Vishvajit is the creator of Sikhtoons.com and a diversity and creative arts fellow at Saldef. He travels throughout the United States hosting presentations and workshops in schools, universities, companies, libraries and museums to challenge stereotypes and prejudices.
A cartoon exhibit featuring Singh’s work is on display at Wing Luke Museum in Seattle.
