A sellout crowd of 6,158 at the Seattle Thunderbirds game Saturday night in Kent set a record for the most people at a ShoWare Center hockey game.
The Portland Winterhawks beat the T-Birds 5-2 during the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. A total of 5,031 stuffed animals were tossed on the ice. The animals are distributed to police and fire departments to give to children in times of emergency and crisis.
The crowd broke the previous single-game attendance high of 6,151 for a Jan. 23, 2010 game against the rival Winterhawks. Portland won that game 6-1. The city-owned arena opened in January 2009.
