‘Tips take down T-Birds in final tune-up | WHL hockey

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 Saturday night in the last preseason game of the season for both teams.

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 Saturday night in the last preseason game of the season for both teams.

The T-Birds will drop the puck for the 2013-14 regular season against the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the ShoWare Center.

Everett (7-0-0-0) took a 1-0 lead on a four-on-three power-play goal from Kevin Davis at 10:11 of the first period. Cole MacDonald and Walterri Hopponen had the assists.

Seattle (4-3-0-0) tied the game 1-1 on a shorthanded goal from Alexander Delnov at the 16-minute mark of the first. Justin Hickman backhanded the puck out of the zone hitting a ‘Tips defenseman at the point. The puck ricocheted to center ice where Delnov raced to it. He came in alone on Everett goalie Daniel Cotton and beat him with a backhand shot under the glove.

Everett went in front 4-1 with three goals in 1:16 late in the first. Both Carson Stadnyk and Linden Penner tipped point shots past Seattle goalie Justin Myles. Stadnyk scored at 17:28 and Penner scored at 17:49. Matt Pufahl scored a power-play goal at 18:44 of first to get Everett’s fourth goal.

Everett outshot Seattle 20-8 in the first period.

The T-Birds cut the Silvertips lead to two goals at 2:27 of the second period. Branden Troock worked the puck down the right boards to Delnov. Delnov found Honey in the right corner. Honey centered the puck to Troock coming down the slot. Troock beat Cotton through the legs for the goal.

Everett got the three-goal lead back at when Dawson Leedahl scored at 7:26 of the second. Bauml had the only assist.

Seattle outshot Everett 10-9 in the second period.

The T-Birds third goal came off the stick of Roberts Lipsbergs at 18:46 of the third period. He redirected a shot from Delnov past Cotton. Justin Hickman had the second assist on the goal.

Seattle outshot Everett 10-8 in the third period but the Silvertips finished with a 37-28 advantage in shots.

Myles stopped 32 of 37 shots and finished with a 2-1-0-0 preseason record.

Cotton made 25 of 28 shots and his preseason record finished at 3-0-0-0.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2013-14 season are available online and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.

T-Birds season tickets are on sale. They can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825.
