Two fires in the last four months at the same vacant Kent house in the 100 block of Naden Avenue were caused by activity by homeless people, according to Puget Sound Fire.
Firefighters responded at about 12:11 a.m. Sunday, June 16 to the house, according a June 17 email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. Firefighters responded to the same location at 6:17 a.m. Feb. 2.
“The cause of the fire was determined to be related to unhoused people activity,” Pawlak said about each fire.
Nobody was injured in either fire. Firefighters found the house fully engulfed in fire each time.
“It appears that there are two sheds on the property, near the house, and unhoused people may have been staying in these structures,” Pawlak said.
Pawlak said the only other structure near the property is a detached garage on the adjacent property. Firefighters used hose lines to protect that structure.
Firefighters fought the second fire defensively due to the structural damage from the first fire. Pawlak said the house sustained significant damage in the February fire.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the latest fire. It took nearly two hours to put out the fire in February.
