Searchers from the King County Sheriff’s Office Marine and K-9 units were unable to find a missing 49-year-old Kent woman Wednesday at Clark Lake Park on the East Hill in Kent.
K-9 units searched the park and a diver looked in the lake but did not find the woman, said Kent Police Lt. John Pagel.
“They have not located anything,” Pagel said Wednesday.
Kent Police asked for assistance from the sheriff’s office to help find Lyubov Lutsyk, said Lisa Price, Kent Police spokeswoman. Lutsyk was last seen at her East Hill residence near Clark Lake Park. Relatives of the woman reported her missing Jan. 2.
Kent city officials closed the park Wednesday afternoon as the sheriff’s office units spent about three hours looking for the woman.
Pagel said searchers were able to cover the 130-acre park near Southeast 240th Street and 127th Avenue Southeast, so no further search of the park is expected.
The family of Lutsyk said that she had been depressed and made statements about wanting to leave and disappear. Clark Lake Park was one of the places she talked about and the family had concerns that she may be somewhere in the park, Price said.
Kent Police, as well as volunteers organized by the family of the woman, searched the park last week but did not find Lutsyk.
“We thought it would be a good place for us to concentrate our efforts and she does not live too far away,” Pagel said. “It’s a pretty big area to search. We want to make sure she’s not here.”
Lutsyk is of Ukrainian descent. She is about 5 feet 5 inches tall, 175 pounds, with brown eyes and gray hair. When last seen, she was dressed in a black hip-length coat with a quilted pattern, long skirt and a tan beret-style hat.
Pagel said police doubt foul play in the disappearance of Lutsyk because of a note she left family members about being depressed and wanting to leave and disappear.
“There’s always a chance,” Pagel said. “But the probability is that foul play was not involved based on the circumstances and the note. But we do not want to rule that out. That’s why it’s important for us to do the right thing by the family (and search for the woman) and if there is a subsequent criminal investigation to make sure that we are able to do that in a timely manner.”
Anyone with information about Lutsyk should call the Kent Police at 253-856-5800 or call 911.
