Volunteers will enjoy great views of Lake Fenwick Park and the entire Kent Valley if they decide to participate to help prune the park’s popular east ridge trail on National Public Lands Day.
The annual event, in its eighth year in Kent, will run from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 27, rain or shine. Lake Fenwick Park is at 25828 Lake Fenwick Road on the city’s West Hill.
Parking is available at one of the park’s three entrances. Coffee and hot chocolate are provided by Starbucks. A cooler of water will also be available, and volunteers are asked to bring their own personal water bottles to reduce waste in our landfill.
National Public Lands Day began in 1994 to keep the promise of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the three million Americans that worked from 1933-42 to preserve and protect America’s natural heritage. In 2013, more than 175,000 volunteers worked at 2,237 sites in every state, the District of Columbia and in many U.S. territories, making it the biggest National Public Lands Day in the history of the event. Kent will be one of about 40 registered sites statewide.
