Kent Police Cmdr. Eric Hemmen and Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery received the Washington’s Most Wanted April Officer of the Month Award.
The two received the award on behalf of the Kent Special Investigations Unit for their work April 4 in capturing fugitive Harold Murphy, wanted by the state Department of Corrections on a warrant after convictions for theft and promoting prostitution.
Washington’s Most Wanted featured Murphy in June. A tip from a viewer to Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound led Kent Police to the Benchwarmer Sports Bar and Grill on Russell Road where Murphy was scheduled to rap that night, according to the Most Wanted website.
When Murphy rolled up in a convertible Mercedes with three other men in the car, officers were waiting to arrest him. Murphy was the 394th capture through Washington’s Most Wanted.
In a related note, to celebrate Washington’s Most Wanted 400th capture, show host David Rose and contributor Parella Lewis will be at Kent Station from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 to meet and greet viewers. Several Kent Police officers also will stop by the booth in the center plaza next to the fountain stage.
