Winterhawks shut out T-Birds to even series | WHL playoffs

The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 at the Moda Center in Portland on Sunday night to even their first-round playoff Western Hockey League series at a game apiece.

The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 at the Moda Center in Portland on Sunday night to even their first-round Western Hockey League playoff series at a game apiece.

Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at the ShoWare Center.

Portland’s Nic Petan scored the only goal in the first 58 minutes of the game. Petan’s goal came at 14:23 of the first period when he poked a puck in the crease past Seattle goalie Taran Kozun.

Seattle pulled Kozun for an extra attacker to try and tie the game with just over two minutes left in the third period. Portland’s Dominic Turgeon scored an empty-net goal at 18:02. The T-Birds pulled Kozun a second time and Oliver Bjorkstrand sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 18:14 of the period.

Kozun made 36 saves on 37 shots in the loss. Portland’s Adin Hill had 21 saves to get the shutout.

Series shifts to Kent

Tickets for Game 3 and Game 4 are on sale on the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The box office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.

Game 3 will be a Director’s Mortgage 2-for-Tuesday game. All tickets for Game 3 are 2-for-1 and ShoWare Center will feature concession specials including $2 beer, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda and $2 popcorn for all fans.

The T-Birds have a special ticket offer for Game 4. Fans can get 10 tickets for $200. Anyone that purchases this playoff ticket package will also receive two additional playoff tickets to Game 4, a T-Birds T-shirt of their choice from the Hockey Store in ShoWare Center and $10 in Chuck-a-Pucks. Fans can purchase this package on the T-Birds website.
