A Kent woman narrowly escaped serious injury as a fire destroyed her townhome at about 5:12 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of First Avenue South in downtown Kent, just south of Willis Street.
Paramedics treated the woman at the scene for undisclosed injuries before transporting her to a local hospital for further care, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
Kent firefighters arrived at the townhome to find heavy smoke and flames visible from the northern portion of the complex. Firefighters kept most of the damage to the unit where the fire started. One adjacent townhome sustained minor structural damage and smoke damage.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, but did not release any more details about how the fire started, said Kyle Ohashi, Kent Fire Department spokesman, in a phone interview Monday.
