A woman was found dead at a house fire Monday in the 16600 block of Southeast 279th Place in Covington.
A 911 call came in about noon Monday from the woman’s husband, according to Kyle Ohashi, spokesman for the Kent Fire Department that serves Kent and Covington.
Ohashi said the husband had gone down the second-story hallway of their home to check on his wife when he found smoke and called 911.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they did not initially see any smoke, but the husband told them his wife was inside.
The firefighters went into the home to the second floor where they found heavy smoke and contained the fire to one room.
The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but found the woman deceased.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Ohashi said the King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of the woman’s death.
