Kent Police arrested a woman for investigation of malicious mischief after she allegedly kicked a screen door and broke a window at a home after a man refused to let her inside to use the bathroom.
The man told officers he didn’t know the woman who banged on his front door at about 8:58 p.m. Dec. 27 in the 900 block of West Meeker Street, according to the police report.
When the man told the woman he wouldn’t let her in, she started to kick the screen door and later reportedly threw something through a ground floor window. The man called 911. He said the woman was in her 20s.
When officers arrived, they found the woman pulling up her pants after urinating by trees near a parking lot not far from the house. Police reported the woman as being extremely intoxicated. She denied she went near the house and said someone else broke the window.
Assault
Officers arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she reportedly scratched her boyfriend’s face during a dispute at about 9:26 p.m. New Year’s Eve at a Benson Crest apartment in the 10700 block of Southeast 238th Street.
The man told officers he was leaving the apartment when the incident started, according to the police report.
The girlfriend asked the man where he was going and he replied, “To church.”
But the woman didn’t believe him and said, “You’re cheating on me, aren’t you?”
The boyfriend went to get in his car when the girlfriend struck him in the eye with her glasses and scratched him in the face. The man started to drive away when the girlfriend jumped on the hood of his car and tried to rip off a side mirror. Police noticed the man had scratches on his face.
When officers asked the girlfriend what happened, she started to cry and didn’t answer any questions but said, “I did nothing wrong.”
Theft
A man reportedly tried to steal a bottle of brandy by sticking it down the front of his pants at about 4:25 p.m. New Year’s Eve at Safeway, 210 Washington Ave. S. The man then struggled with store security and fled on foot before police caught him.
Officers arrested the man for investigation of assault and theft, according to the police report.
The store’s loss prevention officers watched the man grab a bottle of brandy and stick it down his pants. He then exited the store without paying for the item.
Store security stopped the man outside in the parking lot and brought him back inside, where he pulled away from the two security personnel and shoved them. Police found the man walking near the store along Naden Avenue. He told officers he took the brandy because he wanted to celebrate the new year. The brandy was priced at $16.99, before taxes.
Illegal camping
Police cited a man Dec. 27 for investigation of illegal camping after he reportedly slept for a couple of weeks in a sleeping bag under a tarp at Mill Creek Earthworks Park, 100 Reiten Road.
Residents had complained about camping in the northeast section of the park, according to the police report.
The man told officers he was homeless after his wife recently kicked him out of their house. He said he had been staying in the area for a few weeks because he wanted to stay close to his house and didn’t know where else to go.
Police noted they had warned the man earlier in the month to leave the area because the city doesn’t allow camping in the parks. Officers banned the man for 45 days from city parks.
