A 23-year-old Fife woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along Interstate 5 in Kent.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 26 near South 248th Street.
Andrea E. Manske was walking in the southbound lanes when she was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 62-year-old Tacoma man, according to a Washington State Patrol media release. Manske died at the scene.
Manske was a passenger in a car that had pulled over to the freeway shoulder. She decided to get out of that vehicle after she had a disagreement with the driver.
“The individual was upset,” said Julie Startup, a State Patrol spokeswoman, in a Monday phone interview. “We don’t know if it was an argument or what but she decided to walk out of the vehicle.”
Startup said investigators determined that it was an accident.
“There are no plans for any charges,” Startup said. “It appears what she did was under her own power.”
