A woman suspected of trying to cash a stolen check at a Safeway grocery store, fled the scene, led Kent Police on a chase and wound up crashing into another vehicle early Saturday morning.
The 32-year-old woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, police said. An innocent victim in the other car involved in the collision suffered minor injuries.
Around 8:20 a.m., officers arrived as the woman was leaving the store parking lot at Safeway, at 210 Washington Ave. S., and tried to stop her. But the woman took off, and police pursued.
Officers positioned spike strips, but the woman avoided them, driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic at 212th Street and crashing head-on with the other car at Frager Road South.
The road at 212th and Frager was closed temporarily so police could investigate.
