The World Trade Club is hosting its annual awards ceremony March 19 at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
The awards, 2009 Governor’s Trader of the Year and Emerging Trader of the Year, are given annually to Washington-based companies that have significantly contributed to the expansion of Washington’s international trade.
“The World Trade Club takes great pride in being able to present the Governor’s annual awards,” said Allison Clark, co-president of the club. “Washington State has a thriving trading business community and the World Trade Club has been integral in helping build and shape that community for over 60 years now.”
This year, the Governor’s 2009 Trader of the Year is Bellevue-based MulvannyG2 Architecture, a firm that provides comprehensive architectural, planning, and interior design services for office, retail, and mixed-use facilities throughout the U.S. and the world.
Foreign markets are an important element in MulvannyG2’s business strategy. Though the firm is not involved in exporting or importing goods, it does provide exports in terms of architecture design services. It is therefore noteworthy that the firm is being recognized as the Governor’s Trader of the Year for its success in the international services sector.
The Governor’s 2009 Emerging Trader of the Year is SonoSite Inc, an innovator and world leader in hand-carried ultrasound. Headquartered in Bothell, the company is represented by 10 subsidiaries and a global-distribution network in more than 100 countries.
SonoSite, Inc. is an industry leader in the miniaturization, development and commercialization of high-performance, all-digital ultrasound devices. SonoSite’s small, lightweight systems are used by over 20 medical specialties in 113 countries to enable clinicians to make diagnoses and safely guide interventional procedures at the point of care. The company employs approximately 650 people worldwide, of which 360 are in Washington state.
Washington State Lt. Governor Owen will present the awards to these companies during the Governor’s Trader of the Year Awards Reception taking place from 5:30-8:30 p.m March 19 at the ShoWare Center. The reception is taking place during Washington State Trade Week, an annual event organized by the Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development.
“These companies are shining examples of the vital role international trade plays in diversifying our economy, making it stronger and more competitive,” Gov. Chris Gregoire said in a press release. “I congratulate them on their successful growth into the global marketplace, their innovation and their dedication to community service. These companies are showing the world what Washington has to offer.”
The World Trade Club received applications from companies representing a variety of industries and all with a strong presence in the international marketplace. Applicants consistently demonstrated innovation, commitment to community service, and strong international market penetration.
