Man, 22, dies in Federal Way shooting

A suspect was detained without incident, according to police.

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a young man the morning of Monday, Aug. 7 in a neighborhood west of Celebration Park in Federal Way.

Federal Way PD officers responded at about 10:40 a.m. to a reported shooting near 400 South 325th Place, according to FWPD Cmdr. Kurt Schwan.

They arrived to find a 22-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers delivered aid to him until relieved by fire and medic personnel. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died from his injuries, Schwan said.

Based on a description, police found a suspect near the 1100 block of South 320th Street. That 19-year-old man was arrested without incident and taken to the police department. Officers also recovered a handgun.

At the time of the shooting, Schwan said, the suspect was accompanied by a man who left the area and has not yet been found. That man was described as Black or Pacific Islander, with short dark hair, in his late teens or early 20s, Schwan said.

Police have not yet confirmed what led to the shooting and did not share additional information. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to contact police at 253-835-2121.
