New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge in Renton moved to Henry Moses Aquatic Center

Register online for your free jump in the chilly city pool, at 10 a.m. Jan. 1

When it comes to taking an icy winter dip, safety is the number one priority.

After a potentially toxic algae bloom in Lake Washington, the Renton Polar Bear Plunge will now take place at Henry Moses Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1.

Register to be an honorary Polar Bear online at rentonwa.gov/register, with the keyword “Plunge.” Registration is free, but space is limited. Don’t forget to bring a towel and dry clothes.

According to the city website, U.S. Coast Guard-approved flotation devices are permitted for those with limited water or swimming experience.

The City of Renton made the location change announcement Thursday, Dec. 28 across social media platforms.

The Henry Moses Aquatic Center is at 1719 Maple Valley Highway in Renton.
