Seattle woman dies in four-car collision in Skyway

The fatal collision occurred Jan. 9 on State Route 900 near Renton

A 52-year-old Seattle woman died in a four-vehicle traffic collision in Skyway near Renton on Jan. 9.

A 78-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, the passenger and driver in a second vehicle involved, suffered injuries resulting in hospitalization. First responders transported the 78-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the 26-year-old woman to Valley Medical Center in Renton.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:14 a.m. on State Route 900, resulting from an improper U-turn maneuver.

The 52-year-old woman had attempted to make a U-turn crossing in front of the second vehicle as they both traveled westbound on State Route 900 near South 129th Street, according to the state patrol. The second vehicle struck the 52-year-old woman’s vehicle, throwing the vehicle across the double yellow centerline into oncoming traffic where a third vehicle struck her again. A fourth vehicle attempted to avoid the collision and lost control, striking the third vehicle and a guardrail as it continued eastbound, arriving at a stop in lane one.

According to the state patrol, the drivers of the third and fourth vehicles suffered injuries that did not require transportation for further medical attention.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, according to the state patrol.
