Suspect sought in State Route 167 road rage shooting near Renton

Driver reportedly frustrated when unable to pass another car during March 25 incident

The Washington State Patrol is investigating a “road rage shooting” that took place March 25 on State Route 167 near Grady Way, near Renton.

According to the state patrol, no injuries resulted from the incident.

Washington State Patrol communications received a 911 call at approximately 7:20 p.m. March 25 from an individual reporting an unidentified gunman had fired a single shot at their vehicle approximately 20 minutes prior.

According to the state patrol, the individual stated a black Jeep Cherokee attempted to pass them as they traveled northbound on State Route 167. As a result of traffic, the Jeep was unable to pass.

Near the intersection of Grady Way, the driver of the black Jeep tossed a fast-food cup at the individual’s vehicle, and the individual threw a hydro flask back at the Jeep.

According to the state patrol, at a red light the driver of the Jeep pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle and fired a single shot from a handgun. The individual accelerated through the red light to flee from the suspect and proceeded to drive back to their residence.

Back at home, the individual said they noticed a bullet hole in the right front fender, according to state patrol. A trooper confirmed the existence of a bullet hole upon arrival at the individual’s residence and that the bullet was lodged in the wheel well.

The Washington State Patrol has requested assistance from the public on the incident, seeking witnesses and information on the shooting. Email Detective Russ Haake at Russ.Haake@wsp.wa.gov.

The news release described the suspect as a man in his 30s, Black, with a small beard.
