Teen shot, found injured along Dash Point Road in Federal Way

Tuesday morning’s incident marks the fifth shooting in city in the past week

A teenager who had been shot in the lower back was found injured along Dash Point Road early Tuesday morning in Federal Way.

At about 3:30 a.m. July 13, patrol officers responded to sounds of an illegal discharge in the 30600 block of Dash Point Road, according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of Federal Way Police.

While officers were responding, dispatch said there was one shooting victim on the side of the road. On the scene, officers saw a handgun in the victim’s front waistband, Schwan said.

The victim, 16, had been shot once in the lower back. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in stable condition, Schwan said.

There is no suspect information at this time and detectives are actively working on the case.

Tuesday morning’s shooting marks the fifth shooting in Federal Way in the past week.

July 6: A 41-year-old man armed with a knife was shot by a Federal Way police officer after reportedly charging at the officer and a motel manager around 11 a.m. at the Eastwind Motel near the 33200 block of Pacific Highway South in Federal Way. The officer, who has six years of service in Federal Way and four and a half years of service from out of state, was placed on paid administrative leave.

July 8: At about 2:30 p.m., Federal Way police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 4900 block of SW 319th Lane. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his early 20s with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his arm. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to Federal Way Police. Police are investigating, but do not have suspect information yet.

July 8: A 44-year-old woman was shot and killed in her Federal Way apartment around 11:53 p.m. in the 900 block of SW Campus Drive, according to Federal Way Police. When they arrived, officers found the woman inside the doorway of her apartment with apparent gunshot wounds. The woman died at the scene.

July 11: Federal Way officers responded to a shooting at about 11:21 p.m. near the 33400 block of 22nd Avenue SW. The Mirror previously requested information about the incident and will update this story when information becomes available.

A 50-year-old man was shot multiple times inside his residence around 9:06 a.m. July 5, however this incident occurred in the 25400 block of 16th Place South in Des Moines, according to Sgt. Justin Cripe, public information officer for Des Moines police.
