Arthur Erling Ness passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on March 17, 2019 at the age of 82.
He was born in Tacoma Wa to parents Erling and Hulda (Sortun) Ness. He graduated from Kent Meridian High School in 1955 and earned his bachelors in business administration at Central Washington College in 1959 while also serving four years as a Naval Reserve.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Einar D. Ness. Survived by nieces LaPerria (Ness) Velazquez, Bridget Ness, and many great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Art began hunting and fishing as a young boy with his father. He thrived outdoors and his love for fishing kept him out of an office and instead led him to Elfin Cove, AK where he piloted F.V.’s “Laperia” and “Rainbow Rose” for Halibut until retiring in 1999. He then spent his retirement years continuing to hunt every season and fish whenever he could.
Art to many seemed the quiet type, but for a quiet man he had many many friends. For those who knew him well, they will remember him when they hear the phrase, “Fair to Middling.” He was never one to complain. Even in tough times, even in his darkest days fighting a brave fight, if you asked Art how he was doing, he’d reply, “Oh fair to middling, I guess.” He’d say it with a smile on his face and a glimmer in his eyes. Oh how he will be missed.
A celebration of life will be held at Kent Memorial Park 850 Central Ave N, Kent, WA 98032 on Friday, May 10, 2019 between 1:00 – 4:00pm.
