Carol June Werner
Carol June Werner – wife and mother, educator, motivational speaker, inspirational writer, author, and volunteer facilitator for the Kent Corrections Facility – passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at her home in Kent, Washington with family by her side. She was 88 years old.Carol was born in 1924 in Minneapolis, MN to Erwin and Lillian Bower. She married Arne Werner in 1950 in Detroit, MI then moved to the Pacific Northwest where she spent the last 46 years in Kent. After raising her family, she earned her Master’s in Education at the University of Washington, where she did research on the validity of games as a learning tool. She retired from the Kent School District after nineteen years. She taught both 4th and 6th grades. Carol is survived by her husband, Arne, her sister, Pat, four children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard, in 1946 and her sister, Betty, in 2004. Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Kent, 9425 South 248th Street, Kent, WA. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of King County and The First Presbyterian Church of Kent.
