Carol Lois (Hanson) Matson | Obituary

January 1, 1934 – October 6, 2023

On Friday, October 6, 2023, Carol passed away at the age of 89.

Carol was born on January 1, 1934 in Milton, North Dakota. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Bill. They lived in White Center for 14 years until they built their dream home in Kent. They raised 4 sons and loved spending time with their 4 granddaughters.

Carol was heavily involved in Zion Lutheran Church in Kent for 50 years. Leading Bible studies, helping with the annual Christmas Craft Festival, and leading sewing clubs were some of the highlights of her time there. She loved sewing and knitting and even made matching outfits for her granddaughters and their dolls. Carol eventually found hardanger, a type of Norwegian embroidery, and published a book of hardanger patterns. In their later years, she enjoyed traveling, even following Bill around the Western United States to watch his softball tournaments.

Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, her parents, Henry and Alice Hanson, her two older sisters, Iva and Helen, and her younger brothers, Harlan, Doug and Phil. She is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Jeff and Doris, Scott and Val, Roger and Susie and Matt and Diane, her four granddaughters Lisa, Laura, Erika (Curtis), and Katie (Anthony) her four great-granddaughters Sienna, Autumn, Ember, and Alessia, and sisters-in-law Monica, Mary and Joan as well as many other relatives and loved ones.

A remembrance reception will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 25105 132nd Ave SE, Kent, Washington 98042, from 12:00-3:00pm on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

We want to be sure to thank the staff at Weatherly Inn in Kent and Providence Hospice of Seattle for their care of Mom.

In lieu of flowers, please support your local hospice organization, or make donations to Zion Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
