Devin Pekema, 30, born in Seattle on April 28, 1988, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 31, 2019, in Mukilteo, WA.
Devin had a passion for public safety. He graduated from WSU in 2010 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and has worked as a 911 Dispatcher and Supervisor in Bellevue since 2011. During his time of public service he was recognized as a King County Emergency Medical Dispatcher of the Year for 2012 as well as Supervisor of the Year for 2018.
Devin was a kind soul who inspired all those around him. Devin lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many hobbies such as snowboarding, geocaching, brewing and sampling micro brews, golfing, going to the range with friends, ham radio, WSU Cougar football, and traveling. He was loved by many, especially his wife, friends, family, in laws, and coworkers. He will be greatly missed.
Devin is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Pekema, and survived by his wife, Hollean Mitchell, his mother, Charmaine Massong, his step-dad, Steve Massong, his brother, Miles Pekema, and his cousin, Rob Dobbs.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Devin’s birthday to honor and share stories of his life. Date: Sunday, April 28, 2019 Location: Bellevue Brewing Company, 1820 130th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98005 Time: 3pm – 6pm. A Special Needs Trust is being set up to support the life-long needs of Devin’s little brother, Miles. For donations, please make checks payable to “The Endowment Trust Fund” and write “For Miles Pekema” in the memo line.
