Donald Edward Hanson, 96, of Kent, Washington passed away on November 3, 2018. Don was born on September 11, 1922 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Edward and Myra Hanson.
Don served as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class in the US Navy during WWII serving on both the USS Idaho and USS Atlanta and worked for United Airlines for many years. Mr. Hanson was a member of the DAV A One #33 of Kent, VFW Post 1741 of Auburn and American Legion Post 15 of Kent.
Don volunteered his time at Tahoma National Cemetery as a chaplain and service support member and was loved by everyone who knew him.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2005, daughter Susan in 1953 and brother Duane in 2014. He is survived by his sons Mark (Julie) and Steve; brothers Allen and Curt Hanson; step daughters, Jill Weiss and Judy Tolbert; grandchildren Seth, Miranda and Melody, and significant other and caregiver Sharon Penwell.
Viewing will start at 11:00 AM with funeral services to be held at 12PM Monday, November 19, 2018 both at First Christian Church 11717 SE 240th ST Kent, Washington 98030 followed by burial with full military honors at 2:00 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery Kent, WA, reception immediately following the committal service back at First Christian Church.
