Dorothea “Janer” Wilford (Hardy), a longtime resident of Kent WA, died peacefully on August 20, 2022, at the age of 91, at her retirement home in Bremerton WA. Janer was born in Palo Alto, California. Growing up in the Bay Area, she loved the water, vacations on Lake Leonard and was a master with a sailboat. Janer graduated from Palo Alto high school and from Stanford University with a master’s degree in Education. In 1954 she married Edgar Wilford, a recent Harvard Graduate. Janer became an elementary school teacher and later a social worker while her husband taught Mathematics at the college level. When the family moved to Seattle for Edgar’s new position at Boeing, Janer began work at St James Episco- pal Church in Kent, as Director of Outreach, serving the community in need. She also volunteered with Multi-faith Works and St James Thrift Shop. Janer is preceded in death by her spouse Edgar Wilford, parents Edward and Dorothea Hardy, daughter Kathy Wilford, brother Edward Hardy and sister Mary Ella Powell. She leaves behind her foster brother- Tor Hanson, children- James (Sharon) Wilford, Lisa (Paul) Guidry, Wendy Wilford, Michael (Dedra) Wilford, Bill Wilford and grandchildren- JJ and Tara Wilford.
There will be a memorial service and celebration of Janer’s life at St. James Episcopal Church, 24447 94th Ave S., Kent, WA. Sunday, October 2nd at 1:00 pm.
