Hugo Merle Klatt, 85, died Sunday March 4th at Wesley Home in Auburn, WA due to complications from cancer. In the care home for just over a month, Hugo passed peacefully in his sleep.
He leaves his wife, Sally J. Klatt and two children Kurt C. Klatt and Kristin F. Klatt.
Born in Sumner, Iowa on November 22 1932, into a large family and where his father was a Lutheran Minister (Missouri Synod).
A quiet and artistic child, it is said that Hugo read every book in the little Waverly Library. He earned a dual Major at the University of Iowa in Math and Fine Arts. He proudly served in the US Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, AK earning an honorable discharge. He taught Art, Math, and English, at Kent Junior High School and Meridian Junior High from 1956-1979.
For a time he worked with many art mediums including print making, oil painting and Batik art, once showing at the Bellevue Arts & Crafts Fair in 1977.
He enjoyed listening to classical music & jazz, reading Science Fiction and Mystery/Suspense books, and Golfing. For many years he bowled with the Monday Teacher’s League with the “Alley Cats” at Kent Bowl. His favorite family vacation time was spent at Cannon Beach, OR as well as other Washington State beaches.
A private memorial service was held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Monday 12th of March at 1:30.
