Loreen Jeanette (Whitted) Schulz was born on December 9, 1929 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
When she was a small child she moved to the Seattle area with her parents. She attended Washington State University as an undergrad and later in life, pursued her dream to become a teacher and got her degree from Seattle Pacific University. She taught 3rd grade at Kent View Christian School for many years and was well known for her Hot Air Balloon science project, with ascension day being chronicled in the Kent News Journal to the delight of her students.
Loreen’s passions, besides riding in hot air balloons and teaching about them, included bird watching, papercrafting, making clay pottery, and she was a lifetime member of the Valley City Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She especially loved watching football and rooting for her Cougars and Seahawks! She also enjoyed going back to New Mexico where she could enjoy her turquoise jewelry and the art of Georgia O’Keefe. She has passed her love of the Southwest down to her family.
Loreen is survived by her daughter Sarah, son David, grandchildren Alana, Bryan and Cherisse and four great-grandchildren Russell, Charlotte, Paul and Frances. Loreen will always be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother who left us with unforgettable memories.
Because Loreen was such a selfless person please consider making a donation in her name to Old Dog Haven, 621 SR9 NE, PMB A4, Lake Stevens, WA 98258. Or Kent Food Bank, 515 Harrison St, Suite 107, Kent, WA 98032.
