Marion and Mary Ward welcomed their daughter on February 26, 1939, to their home in Bellingham, WA. Marion was a Campfire and Rainbow Girl. She attended the Campus School and grew up embracing the idea of becoming a teacher. Marion earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Western Washington University. For 38 years, she taught math and science in Auburn and Bellevue schools. Her students nominated her to be included in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and cherished the friendships made.
Marion married E. Paige Darragh on July 7, 1961. They were together for 40 years. Their horses brought them joy. Edward Gallett became her husband on December 6, 2008. They enjoyed traveling the world together.
Marion enjoyed hiking, horseback riding and was a champion competitive trail rider. Her garden bloomed under her care. Marion’s passport was well used getting her to all seven continents. She walked seven marathons; Vancouver, BC and Anchorage were two favorites.
Marion passed on July 16, 2022. She will rest beside Paige at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held on October 20, 2022, 1 p.m. at her home: 15051 SE 234th Street Kent, WA.
