Martina Gerarda Hilaria Maria Bayer
Tina, a Kent native, was born July 15, 1936 to Joseph and Neeltje Stroomer. She passed away peacefully on April 13, 2011. Raised on a dairy farm in Kent, Tina was the youngest of 8 children. The highlight of her childhood was a boat trip with her parents back to the Netherlands at age 14. Tina graduated from Kent-Meridian H.S. in 1954 and married Theodore (Ted) on April 2, 1956. Tina was a dedicated wife and a loving mother of 5 children. She loved music and especially singing with the Choral Belles, participating in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, collecting antiques, rocks & fossils, gold panning, traveling, camping and fishing, genealogy, watching Mariners baseball, reading about history and her Catholic faith. A travel highlight of her adult life was a trip to the Netherlands with 5 of her sisters to visit relatives and rediscover family ties. Tina struggled with Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 35 years of her adult life. She will be remembered as a strong woman who never complained, always found a way to get it done and persevere through any trial that was put before her. Tina is survived by her husband Ted and her 5 children and their spouses: Lisa (Everett) Quam, Kevin (Eileen) Bayer, Lance Bayer, Kurt (Kirsa) Bayer, and Beth Bayer; 2 sisters, Jane Westby and Helen Bylin. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Stewart, Corinna, Benjamin, Nicholas, Alexis, Cougar, Orie, Rowan, Ted, Mitchell, Brian and Samantha. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, April 29, 2011 at St. Anthony Chapel at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 304 3rd Ave S., Kent, WA 98032. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Tina’s honor to the Arthritis Foundation.
