Michele Moore Spratley
The heavenly hosts acquired a new greeter recently. Born in the Bronx, New York on September 11, 1963 Michele attended public school there, until the family moved to Middletown, NY where she attended Junior High and High school, graduating with honors.
On Wednesday, April 1, 2015, Michele transitioned in peace and dignity to a better place. Her accepting warmth and 1000 megawatt smile lit the lives and hearts of those around her on a moment to moment basis.
Michele possessed an innate empathy for others, and strove constantly to elevate the needs of those around her above her own. She courageously fought the ravages of a long term medical condition with grace and aplomb, with nary a word of complaint. She seemed to have the happy talent of synthesizing her discomfort to the elevation and betterment of others, and, as a result, was widely loved by most she encountered.
Michele was highly intelligent with dual majors from the University of Texas in both English and Spanish. Additionally, her intellect, coupled with a frenetic work ethic, yielded success in careers in broadcast radio, the judicial system, and clearly, her most intrinsically rewarding…education. Michele worked as a Paraeducator/Translator for the Kent School District, and flourished in the educational environment. She was prized by both pupil and pedagogue alike.
In her spare time Michele really enjoyed listening to good music, reading, playing Scrabble and spending time with her family. She was an engaged and cherished daughter, sister, and parent. Her last days before her passing were a source of great contentment to her as she was able to spend time with family and friends cooking, movie watching, and socializing.
Michele is loved and remembered by her son, Michael Bateman; son, Kevin Bateman; daughter, Catherine Spratley; sister, Miriam Schaefer and husband, Robert; sister, Tracy Woxland and husband, Morgan; brother, John Moore and wife, Jessica; Parents, John and Renee Moore; nieces, Jessica Gonzalez, Camryn Woxland, Katherine Moore, Sophia Moore; nephew, Jordan Woxland; partner, companion, and Scrabble buddy, Steve St. Louis; and many loving friends.
A celebration of Michele’s life will be held at the Kentwood High School PAC on April 18, 2015 from 11:00-2:00PM with a reception afterwards. The family requests that any and all donations be given to the Northwest Kidney Center in honor of Michele Moore Spratley.
