January 10, 1936 – May 10, 2023
Rita Green died peacefully at her home on May 10, 2023, surrounded by her family. Rita was 87 years old, and much loved by her family and friends. Rita was born Rita Marlene Hunter in Devils Lake, North Dakota on January 10, 1936, the second child of Roy and Zita (Pat) Hunter. While still a baby, Roy, Pat and the children moved from Devils Lake to Kent, Washington. The Hunter family grew with the births of two additional daughters. Rita met her handsome future husband, Earl Green, in 1951 while both were attending Kent High School. Rita and Earl were married on June 19, 1954. Children quickly followed, starting with their daughter Kathleen (Kathy). Following Kathy were five boys, starting with Patrick (Pat), Timothy (Tim), Daniel (Dan), Thomas (Tom) and Joseph (Joe). The Green family eventually bought a home on Scenic Hill in Kent, where the children were raised, all creating many lifelong adventures and friendships.
Rita was a loving mother and wife, and was always very busy with keeping up the home, being a great cook, and involvement with the many activities of her children, who were active in many sports and other activities. Rita was a Cub Scout den mother and participated in several charitable guilds.
The Green family had many wonderful times together, including trips to Ocean Shores, numerous camping trips, memorable family trips to South Dakota and Sweden, and many drives to the local ski areas.
Rita is survived by her loving husband Earl, her six children and spouses (Yvonne, Shelly, Danielle, and Marilyn), 14 grandchildren and spouses, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters (Joyce and Mary Jo Hunter), five brother and sisters-in law (Bob and Jean Green, Betty Thomas, Dorothy Burns, and Lois Greenside), and many nieces and nephews (and spouses). Rita was predeceased by her mother and father, and brother Edward.
Rita lived a wonderful and long life, and family was always her top priority. Rita will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held for Rita at St. Stephen the Martyr Church on Thursday, June 8 at 11:00 am. A reception will immediately follow in the Parish Hall at the Church. St. Stephen the Martyr Church is located at 13055 SE 192nd St., Renton, WA 98058.
