I read today that the Maple Valley City Council has approved recreational marijuana shops in Maple Valley while the Kent City Council still sits on its ban.
Surrounding cities – Renton, Auburn, Covington, Des Moines – allow shops per their citizens’ preference.
Kent is surrounded by shops, and there is no lack of availability for its residents.
So, why is the council still sitting on this against the will of its residents who voted by more than a majority to be in favor of it?
Seems to me that the only harm suffered by the city from marijuana is the lack of tax flow generated by the sale of it.
