It’s your decision this time.
The vote on Kent Proposition A (the police bond) is a vote of the citizens of Kent. Most of the time taxes are voted upon us by our elected leaders in local, state and national government.
Our Kent City Council is giving each of us the opportunity to personally vote this property tax levy to provide our Kent Police Department with adequate facilities. Your vote counts.
With the passage of Prop A our growing police force for a growing city will be housed together in a new, enlarged headquarters building designed and planned for professional efficiency. Now spread out in four separate geographic locations, communication and team-work is difficult. Strategic criminal evidence is overflowing in three city locations and one public storage locker. Because there is now not enough secure parking police vehicles are often vandalized on the adjacent public street.
There are significant cost savings in rebuilding at the present location and public convenience remaining on the downtown civic center campus.
Upgrading the Kent Corrections Facility and adding housing for those with mental health needs will better serve more than half the jail population. Doubling the size of the firearms range will better serve our expanding police force and help them protect us.
Kent Proposition A requires a 60-percent supermajority “yes” vote to pass. Your vote counts. Vote “yes” and mail in your ballot today.
