Kentridge’s Derek Freitag and Kent-Meridian’s Emmanuel Daigbe captured class championship at Mat Classic XXVII in the Tacoma Dome on Saturday.
Freitag, a junior, earned a 6-2 decision over Union’s Ethan Rotondo in the 106-pound final. Freitag handled Moses Lake’s Joe Garcia 9-2 in the semifinals.
Daigbe, a junior, defeated Union’s Alex Berfanger 3-1 for the 182-pound title, capping an undefeated season. Daigbe pinned Lake Stevens’ Mason Beaver at the 1:02 mark in the semifinals.
K-M’s Jahleel Smith settled for third place at 138 pounds. Smith dropped a 3-2 decision to Lake Steven’s Jake Douglas in the semfinals, but rebounded to beat Yelm’s Tanner Page 7-5 in a consolation matchup. Smith then dominated Inglemoor’s Andy Pham 16-4 in the bout for third place.
The Royals’ Tanner Torr placed at 285 pounds. Torr downed Bethel’s Avyion Fisher 2-0 In the bout for fifth.
