The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the T-Birds’ third preseason game at the Everett Silvertips Preseason Classic.
Seattle goalie Logan Flodell stopped 52 of 53 shots he faced in the game.
The T-Birds are 2-1-0-0 in the preseason with four games remaining on the schedule. They beat the Tri-City Americans 4-0 on Friday and the Victoria Royals 5-4 in overtime on Saturday.
The T-Birds’ next preseason appearance will be in Kennewick at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center. The T-Birds will play the Spokane Chiefs at 3 p.m. Thursday and face the Everett Silvertips at 11 a.m. Friday.
Spokane took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal from Adam Helewka at 10:24 of the first period. Liam Stewart and Tyson Helgesen had the assists.
Spokane outshot Seattle 15-10 in the first period.
Garret Hughson replaced Tyson Verhelst in Spokane’s net with 5:06 left in the second period. Verhelst stopped all 16 shots he faced.
The Chiefs outshot the T-Birds 16-6 in the second period and led 31-16 in shots after two periods.
Hughson stopped all three shots he faced.
Spokane outshot Seattle 22-3 in the third period and 53-19 in the game.
