The Kentwood girls soccer team played host to Kentlake on Saturday at French Field in the first-ever ‘Kicks for the Cure’ match, which was played in light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is October.
Kentwood, which entered the week in first place in the South Puget Sound League North Division, held off Kentlake 1-0 on an Alex White goal that came in the 8th minute.
During the match, Kentwood players wore light pink while the Falcons sported a darker shade of the same color. The goal of what will become an annual event was to raise money for the Covington MultiCare Mammogram Assistance Fund.
As of Sunday night, it wasn’t yet known how much money the two teams raised, but it was estimated to be around $3,000, Kentwood coach Aaron Radford said.
