He’s Flyin Home collared a loose on the lead Who’s Your Next Ex and posted a neck victory Saturday in the $10,900 Best Western Peppertree Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

He’s Flyin Home ran one mile in 1 minute, 35.47 seconds on a fast track and paid $13.60, $6.60 and $4.20.

It was the third victory in 17 starts overall and the first in 10 starts at Emerald Downs for the 4-year-old Broken Vow gelding. The $5,995 winner’s share boosted his earnings to $39,823.

Who’s Your Next Ex, ridden by Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo, held second place after leading through fractions of:23.81, :46.79 and 1:10.77, and paid $6 and $4.20. Big Daddy’s Vision, Jorge Rosales riding, finished third and paid $4.80.

Crispin and McCanna also combined to win Saturday’s opener with the 2-year-old filly Miss Top Nite ($7.40).

There were no tickets with five winners in the $0.50 Pick 5, and the carryover is $2,560 to Sunday.

NOTES: Grant Marty Adream ($13.80) prevailed in the fourth race—the Richard Hitchcock Appreciation Purse—named for the longtime WTBOA board member and horse owner…The Washington sire He’s Tops sired two winners on the card: Miss Top Nite in the first and 3-year-old filly E  Z Kitty ($20.40) in the seventh.

Smiling Tiger, a $40,000 purchase at the 2008 WTBA Summer Sale, became racing’s newest millionaire with a runaway victory in the $250,000 Triple Bend Handicap (G1) at Hollywood Park. A 4-year-old by Hold That Tiger-Shandra Smiles, Smiling Tiger earned $150,000 to push his earnings to $1,149,353 for owners Alan Klein of Burlingame, Calif. and Philip Lebherz of San Mateo, Calif. Dr. Rodney Orr is the breeder…Unbeaten City Route ($3), co-owned by George Todaro, was a handy winner of the $50,000 Juan Gonzalez Memorial Stakes at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif. The 2-year-old Globalize filly ran 5-½ furlongs in 1:03.34 under Kevin Krigger.

Ed McNamara of Newsday in New York was a visitor Saturday at Emerald Downs, the 82nd different track the veteran racing writer has attended in his 30-year career.

Live racing continues Sunday with the annual Fireworks Spectacular. Special first post time is 4:30 p.m.

Emerald Downs’ 2008 champion 2-year-old Gallant Son is among eight horses entered Sunday in the  $77,000 Robert K. Kerlan Memorial Handicap on turf at Hollywood Park.
