More than 1,000 track-and-field athletes from 26 Kent elementary schools competed in the Junior Olympics May 8 at French Field next to Kent-Meridian High School.
Boys and girls in the fourth-through-sixth grades competed in the long jump, softball throw, 75-yard dash, 600-yard run and the 4 x 75-yard shuttle relay. The top five teams in each division received trophies, and the top five competitors in each event won ribbons.
The top three schools in the meet were: Park Orchard (first, with 59 points), Neely O’Brien (second, with 58.5 points) and Pine Tree (third with 54 points.)
The top girl and boy athletes of the meet were: fourth-grader Haley Webber of Fairwood Elementary, who took firsts in the running long jump and the 600 yard run, and a second in the 4 x 75 relay; and sixth-grader William Sanders of East Hill Elementary who had firsts in the running long jump and 75-yard-dash, and a third in the 4 x 75 relay.
