The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped a season-high 49 shots. His record with the overtime loss is now 5-3-2-2.
The Blazers took a 1-0 lead at 9:43 of the first period on a goal by Colin Smith. JC Lipon and Tyler Hansen had the assists.
Kamloops (8-7-0-1) outshot Seattle 19-3 in the first period.
Seattle (5-3-2-2) tied the game 1-1 at 15:58 of the second period on Travis Bobbee’s first goal of the season. Luke Lockhart sent the puck up the right boards to Charles Wells who took it into the Blazers zone. Wells stopped inside the blue line and then carried the puck from the left point towards the right point. Wells sent the puck back to Bobbee at the left point. Bobbee put a slap shot on goal that beat Kamloops goalie Jeff Bosch.
The Blazers outshot the T-Birds 16-9 in the second period and led 35-12 in total shots after 40 minutes.
The T-Birds went in front 2-1 on a power-play goal by Marcel Noebels at 1:10 of the third period. Lockhart had the puck along the right boards and sent it to Burke Gallimore on the goal line to the left of Bosch. Gallimore sent the puck through the crease to Marcel Noebels at the right post. Noebels put the puck past a sprawling Bosch for his fourth goal of the season.
Lockhart was awarded a penalty shot at 3:16 of the third when he was taken down on a breakaway. Lockhart came down and Bosch and tried to beat the goalie with a quick snap shot over the glove. Bosch snapped his glove out and made the save.
The Blazers tied the game 2-2 at 8:43 of the third on an unassisted power-play goal by Austin Madaisky.
Kamloops led in shots 49-25 in shots after 60 minutes of regulation.
Jordan DePape scored the winner 32 seconds into overtime on a power play. Bronson Maschmeyer and Chase Schaber had the assists.
Kamloops outshot Seattle 52-25 in the game.
Bosch made 23 saves on 25 shots and his record is now 7-2-0-0.
