Several Kent-area athletes placed high at the West Central/Southwest bi-district track and field championships at French Field on Saturday to earn state berths.
Kentridge’s Lexi Klinkenberg cleared the 100-meter hurdles in 15.20 seconds, taking third in the district final and earning a state berth. She also finished third in the 300 intermediates in 45.14.
Kent-Meridian’s Sara Madden qualified in the 300 hurdles, taking fifth in 45.52.
Kentwood’s Sarah Toeaina captured the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 6 inches and was second in long jump at 18-7.
Kentlake’s Lizzy Reichlinger was fifth in pole vault at 10 feet, qualifying her for state.
In the relays, Kentwood’s 400- and 800-meter foursome finished a state-qualifying second (49.38) and fourth (1:44.43), respectively.
Among the top finishers in the boys were: Kentridge’s Jake Philpott (second, pole vault, 13-6); Antony Randolph (110 hurdles, fifth, 15.05); and Stephen Bishopp (seventh, shot put, 49-10); and Kentwood’s Terence Gray (third, discus, 149-2); and Brandon Strolding (fifth, long jump, 22-4).
Kent-Meridian’s D’Mon Lee was second in the 200 (22.74).
The state meet is Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.
