Seattle Thunderbirds left wing player Ryan Gropp was 14 when his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in Kamloops, B.C.
The family – his dad and younger brother – were devastated watching Colleen Gropp going through chemotherapy. Three years later, the cancer returned. At age 20, Gropp understands how the disease has such a painful impact on patients and families.
Today Gropp’s mom is doing well, thanks, he says, to the cancer research that guided his mom’s treatment.
The Thunderbirds play the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at the Showare Center. The American Cancer Society has partnered with the Thunderbirds to raise money for Relay For Life.
For every $25 ticket, $12 is earmarked to help raise funds for cancer research and help end the disease.
