Kent Reporter Athletes of the week: Kentlake

Josie Pedeferri (Flag Football Sr.) and Matthew Lawrence (Basketball Sr.) are this weeks winners.

The Kent Reporter athletes of the week for the week of Feb. 14 are from Kentlake; Matthew Lawrence (Sr.) basketball, Josie Pedeferri (Sr.) flag football.

What do you value in your sport or about your team?

Lawrence: I value the effort and discipline this team has had all season. I love this sport and all the memories I hold in this sport.

Pedeferri: The bonds I make with my teammates.

What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?

Lawrence: Whatever you put in you get out and it’s always about the journey not the destination.

Pedeferri: I have learned how to be resilient and keep pushing through.

What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?

Lawrence: My faith in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I give Him all the glory and all the praise. Whenever I’m unmotivated I think about how He carried the cross and every day I have to deny myself and pick up my cross.

Pedeferri: I push through and show up for my team.

Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

Lawrence: Chipotle before every game.

Pedeferri: McChicken and a crisp Dr. Pepper.

What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?

Lawrence: To pray and always keep your head up. Challenges and hard times will shape who you become and there will always be brighter days ahead. Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is just a learning experience to make you better. The storm is temporary, and you will get through it.

Pedeferri: I let them know that mistakes happen and they got the next one.

From the sidelines:

Lawrence: Matthew is the team captain this year and is a wonderful teammate. He is reliable and shows great leadership. Not only does he shine on the court, but he is an exemplary student too. Matthew is a league leader in free throw percentage and a top scorer on the team.

Pedeferri: Josie Pedeferri is a Senior leader and a game changer. On the field she finds ways to impact the game weather it is on defense getting picks or offense catching game winning touchdowns. In the district round tournament, she caught 5 touchdowns and had 3 interceptions. She leads her team in both receiving TDs and Interceptions. The Falcons are headed to the Regional round as NPSL Champs and looking for a deep run lead by her leadership
