Kent Reporter Male Athlete of the Week: Justin Jamison

Jamison has set a new personal record in the 400 every race this season.

The Kent Reporter’s male athlete of the week for the week of April 19 is Kentwood High School sophomore Justin Jamison, track and field.

What is your favorite subject/class in school?

Math

Name your Mount Rushmore (Top 4) favorite movies:

Bad boys for life, The Hangover, Fast and Furious, and 22 jump street.

Who is the person in your life that has helped you succeed the most?

My dad has helped me the most, he is always pushing me to do my best in everything I do, especially track, as he ran it himself when he was younger.

You’re on a long road trip, you stop at a gas station. You get one drink and one snack. What are you choosing?

A red Gatorade and a red can of pringles

Describe your pre-game ritual:

The day before a track meet, I will eat some kind of pasta and do some stretching and using a massage gun. Then the day of the track meet I will eat a good and filling breakfast. I will then do some stretching to help loosen up for the meet. On the way to the meet, I usually listen to some music. Once I get there I will talk with my friends on the team and we will talk about what our goals for the meet are. I usually go down like 30 minutes before my first event and do even more stretching and talking with others. Once we get about 15 minutes away from my events I start to do my warmups, so that way when I get to the starting line I’m warm and ready to run my best.

Song you currently can’t stop listening to?

We paid by lil baby

From the sidelines: Justin Jamison has been a great addition to Kentwood Track and Field. Since the first meet, he has set a new personal record in the 400m after every single one of his performances. Justin has always stepped up as a great teammate by staying positive and displaying a willingness to put forth his best effort for his teammates regardless of any type of adversity that they are facing. Justin’s talents and coachable attitude in the 400m has put him in the leading position in the NPSL, District 3 and 4th in 4A State. This past weekend, Justin competed in the highly contested Pasco Invite. In his first highly competitive meet, Justin set a new PR by almost 2 seconds to win his heat and took 3rd overall!
