The Kentlake High girls basketball team grabbed the top seed out of the South Puget Sound League Northeast Division with a 45-38 win over Kentridge on Tuesday night at the ShoWare Center.
The loss sets Kentridge (15-6) up as second in the SPSL Northeast as they advance to district play. The Chargers host the 11th-ranked SPSL team on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
Kentlake (17-4) takes the top seed after beating the Chargers in the first-place tiebreaker game. The two teams tied atop the division with 7-1 records in the regular season and had split the two regular season games against each other.
After a romp against Kent-Meridian on Jan. 29, Kentridge ground to a stop against Kentlake. The Falcons kept a narrow lead over Kentridge throughout most of the game.
Bobbi Westendorf picked up 12 points with three assists, six rebounds and two blocks to lead Kentridge. Alicia Dugan added 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and three assists. Morgan Gary went 3-for-3 on two-point shots and had five rebounds.
The Kent-Meridian game was described by some players as more of a warmup, as the Chargers didn’t have a lot to fear from the Royals. The game allowed them to get used to the ShoWare Center court and venue for when they returned five days later against Kentlake. But the warmup didn’t quite take. .
Meanwhile, the Kentridge boys finished second to Kentwood in the SPSL Northeast. The Chargers host the SPSL’s seventh-ranked team on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
