Kentridge’s William Sirbu and John Shores delivered resounding championship performances at the North Puget Sound League Cascade Division League and sub-regional tournament at Kent-Meridian High School last Saturday.
Sirbu, a junior, pinned Kentwood’s Shawn Salomon at 2 minutes and 19 seconds into their 106-pound title match to improve to 27-3 on the season.
Shores, 32-3, looking for a return trip to state, rolled through the 152-pound class, winning his class title by injury default over Tahoma’s Gunner Starren.
Both earned tickets to this weekend’s regional showdown at Cavelero Mid-High in Lake Stevens.
The top four finishers from each weight class at the league meet qualified for the regional.
Tahoma dominated the meet behind nine weight division champions. The Bears racked up 422.5 points to take the team title. Kentwood (372) was second, followed by Kentridge (166) and Kent Meridian (162.5).
